Anthropic Folds Claude Cowork Into Claude's Chat Interface

Anthropic merged its Claude chatbot with agentic tool Claude Cowork into one interface and added beta features Claude Docs and Claude Slides. Claude Code stays separate.

The consolidation came alongside two new features released in beta, Claude Docs and Claude Slides, and a broader rollout of Claude Design, which had previously been a standalone product and is now available inside users' chats, SiliconANGLE reported.

Under the new setup, Claude routes a user's prompt automatically to the most appropriate interface, either Claude Chat or Claude Cowork, so the user does not have to switch tabs. Anthropic said that before the merger many customers struggled to determine which AI tab they should choose for a specific task, and that a single front end should let them reach AI whenever they need it.

Claude Slides handles the creation and editing of PowerPoint presentations. Users can draft new slides, edit them and present them from inside Claude, or download them as PowerPoint or PDF files. Claude Docs covers documents: Claude can draft sections of text or help users edit, and multiple colleagues can work on the same file in real time by collaborating on the same file before exporting it to Microsoft Word or Google Docs.

The new capabilities are being made available first to Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers on the web, desktop and mobile. Anthropic said they will reach Team subscribers and free users in the coming weeks.

Claude Code, Anthropic's coding agent, remains a separate product and is unaffected by the change, at least for now.

SiliconANGLE reported that OpenAI Group PBC is also working toward a consolidated product that would fold ChatGPT, its coding agent Codex and possibly its AI browser Atlas into a single offering. OpenAI has described the goal in similar terms, as a way to reduce tool fragmentation so that AI can move between answering questions, researching, coding and explaining things within one session.

Anthropic did not detail how the routing decision is made in individual cases. SiliconANGLE noted that agentic products such as Cowork are built to reason through multistep tasks and make tool calls on a user's behalf, which consumes far more tokens than a simple chat exchange. Because users are billed by token usage, a prompt that the integrated Claude sends through its agentic, tool-calling machinery rather than the chat interface could raise a customer's compute cost without the customer immediately realizing it.
