Anthropic Releases Claude Haiku 5.5, Its Third Claude 5.5 Upgrade in a Month

Anthropic has released Claude Haiku 5.5, the smallest and cheapest model in its lineup, saying it costs about 75% less to run than the version it replaces and is the company's fastest model to date.

Anthropic currently offers several Claude models. The three main tiers are Haiku, described as the smallest and cheapest, Sonnet, the medium-sized and mid-priced option, and Opus, the largest and most expensive of the three. Above them sits Fable/Mythos, which the company positions as its highest tier and describes as more capable and more costly.

"Claude Haiku 5.5 is designed for high-volume, cost-sensitive tasks," Anthropic says. "It reliably handles quick and repetitive workloads (like summaries, compactions, database queries, and classification requests). It pairs well with Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5 as a subagent on coding work. And, since it's also our fastest model to date, it works especially well for speed-sensitive tasks like live customer support and browser use."

The company adds that Haiku 5.5 costs around 75% less to run than the previous model version it replaces.

Alongside the Haiku release, Anthropic says it is adjusting the pricing and perks attached to its broader model range. The company is halving the price of cache reads for Claude Sonnet 5.5, which it says means Sonnet 5.5 now runs around 20% cheaper on most agentic work. It is also introducing a new monthly API credit for Claude Max and Team subscribers, intended to support users building agents and applications that run on the Claude Platform.

On its website, Anthropic compares Claude Haiku 5.5 with OpenAI's GPT-5.5 Luna, another low-cost model. The company's own description of the new release, including the model's capabilities and pricing, is published there.

The Haiku 5.5 launch extends a rapid run of model updates from Anthropic, which had already refreshed its two larger tiers under the 5.5 label. For developers and businesses choosing among the tiers, the company's pitch is that Haiku can serve as a low-cost, high-speed component alongside the larger models rather than as a replacement for them.
