Anthropic Releases Claude Haiku 5.5, OpenAI Adds GPT-6 as RTX Spark PCs and Alexa Tablets Debut

Anthropic released Claude Haiku 5.5, OpenAI added GPT-6 models to ChatGPT, and PC makers showed Nvidia RTX Spark systems. Microsoft reported tens of millions of annual Copilot+ PC shipments, Amazon launched Alexa Tablets, and Apple scheduled an Oct. 13 event.

Anthropic said Claude Haiku 5.5 is aimed at high-frequency, cost-sensitive tasks such as summarization, classification, database queries and real-time customer service, and can serve as a sub-agent for Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5 when they perform coding tasks. It said average operating cost is about 75% lower than the previous Haiku 4.5. In Anthropic's published tests, Haiku 5.5 scored 1,620 on the knowledge-work benchmark GDPval-AA v2.1 and 1,578 on AA-Briefcase v1.1; it scored 72.4% on the offline subset of the computer-use test OSWorld 2.1 and 39.2% on the agentic coding test Terminal-Bench 4.0. Haiku 5.5 is the first Haiku model to support adjustable reasoning effort, allowing developers to trade model capability against operating cost. For API requests with input of no more than 100,000 tokens, Anthropic listed input and output pricing at $0.10 and $0.50 per million tokens; above that length, the prices rise to $0.50 and $2.50.

OpenAI's GPT-6 rollout gives Plus and higher paid subscribers immediate access to GPT-6 Sol, while free and Go tier users can use the lightweight GPT-6 Luna from Oct. 8, OpenAI said. Microsoft confirmed at its Windows and Surface event in San Francisco on Oct. 7 that it will continue its Copilot+ PC strategy, according to Windows Latest. Pavan Davuluri, Microsoft's executive vice president for Windows and devices, said Copilot+ PCs ship tens of millions of units each year and perform more than 2 trillion AI inferences locally every month, covering search, image processing and video calls. He also said more than 40% of laptops produced for the enterprise market are Copilot+ PCs. Microsoft plans to expand Copilot+ PC features through hybrid intelligence that combines local and cloud AI, choosing where to run workloads based on task requirements. The company described local context, which lets Copilot understand files and recent activity with user authorization; local actions, which allow Copilot to organize files, check device status, troubleshoot and perform coding tasks; and local models, which let Copilot call AI models running on the PC and combine them with cloud computing resources.
