Anthropic tells London founders it is not competing for their lunch; DeepMind alum builds drug-design AI lab
Anthropic's EMEA startup lead told about 250 founders in London that the lab is not competing with them, while DeepMind alumnus Simon Kohl described leaving Big Tech to build the drug-design AI lab Latent Labs and Sifted mapped 37 European AI safety companies.
The same outlet said on the same day that AI safety has shot up the public agenda in recent weeks, as increasingly capable AI models and agents reignited debates over whether safeguards are keeping pace with so-called "existential" risks. Its map of the field counts 37 companies building what Sifted describes as Europe's trust layer for AI.
In a separate report published the same morning, Simon Kohl, a DeepMind alumnus, described leaving the lab three years ago to launch Latent Labs, an AI lab dedicated to drug design and discovery. Sifted opened its write-up by noting that a pitch deck featuring an "ex-DeepMind" team is certain to catch the attention of investors these days, and ran the interview under the headline "Pushing the frontier is best done outside."
