Apple accidentally leaks camera-equipped AirPods with Visual Intelligence in macOS video

Apple appears to have leaked camera-equipped AirPods in a macOS Tahoe 26.7 release candidate video, revealing a Visual Intelligence feature that lets Siri identify and save items the wearer sees.

The new AirPods are said to include a camera that feeds low-resolution imagery to Apple's long-delayed Siri assistant, which can then tell the wearer what they are seeing via the new Visual Intelligence function. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman first tipped the existence of such AirPods back in May. In the leaked video, first highlighted by X user @aaronp613, the cameras are not visible, and the earbuds resemble the current AirPods Pro except for a thicker stem.

Privacy concerns may arise, as the device is technically a surveillance wearable even with a low-resolution view of the world. Gurman has reported that the AirPods may include an indicator showing when the cameras are active, which would be a minimum safeguard.

The presence of the demo video in macOS 26.7 suggests the camera AirPods could be announced at Apple's iPhone 18 event, expected next month. According to Tahoe 26.7 references, the upcoming model is codenamed B790. Another camera-equipped AirPod model, codenamed B798, is expected in 2027, per a separate Bloomberg report from Gurman.
