Apple Adds AI Video Search, 4K Recording and Real-Time Alerts to Home App in iOS 27
iOS 27 adds Apple Intelligence video descriptions and clip search to HomeKit Secure Video, plus 4K recording and notifications that update in real time, 9to5Mac reports.
The most extensive changes described in the report concern HomeKit Secure Video, Apple's cloud-based recording service for compatible cameras that is included with an iCloud+ subscription. According to the report, Apple Intelligence will power three additions there. Generated video descriptions are intended to let users understand what happened across a sequence of clips without watching them. A search function is meant to help users locate specific events, such as a package delivery. A noteworthy clips section, placed at the top of the Search page, will surface moments the app judges users may want to review so they can see important events quickly.
Alongside those AI features, the report says HomeKit Secure Video will gain support for 4K video, a request that has circulated among users for some time. Compatible cameras will be able to stream and record at 4K resolution, where the previous ceiling was 1080p. The 4K support is not powered by Apple Intelligence.
The Home app will also gain a second AI-based feature, real-time updating notifications. According to the report, the app uses Apple Intelligence to group related notifications into a single activity, so users receive one notification that changes as events occur. A new Apple Intelligence section in the Home app's settings screen, the report says, will contain a "Reduce Notifications" toggle that describes the behavior as combining related activities, such as someone arriving and unlocking a door, into one notification that updates in real time.
In practice, the report says, Home app notifications will stop displaying outdated information and will focus on the latest and most relevant details. Where a user might previously have received seven separate but related notifications, the app would instead deliver a single alert reading, for example, "Lydia arrived. Checked the mail. Garage Door was closed."
The features arrive as Apple prepares to launch several new Home products, the report notes, a backdrop that gives the Home app's software updates added weight. Apple has not published the features outside the material cited by the outlet, and no release date beyond the iOS 27 cycle was given in the report.
