Apple adds Hold Assist and Call Screening to iPhone Phone app, with Call Context set for iOS 27
Apple's iPhone Phone app includes Hold Assist and Call Screening in iOS 26, while iOS 27 will add Call Context for iPhone 15 Pro and later models.
Hold Assist detects when a caller has been placed on hold. When the feature recognizes that situation, a pop-up appears that the user can tap to enable Hold Assist, and the iPhone then notifies the user when the person on the other end returns. According to 9to5Mac, the feature can be turned on through the Settings app by scrolling to Apps and choosing Phone, where a toggle labeled Hold Assist Detection is available.
Call Screening, also introduced in iOS 26, addresses calls from unsaved numbers. When such a number calls, the feature asks the caller for more information before the iPhone rings. The caller's explanation appears on the Lock Screen, and the user can choose to answer the call or send the caller to voicemail. The report described Call Screening as a useful feature amid increasing spam calls and said it is available in Settings, then Apps, then Phone.
Call Context is the new feature coming with iOS 27. It is an Apple Intelligence feature that proactively surfaces relevant information when a user calls a business. For example, if a user calls an airline to change a flight, Call Context will automatically find the confirmation code in Mail and show it on the screen during the call. If a user calls a company about a recent order, the feature will surface the order number and other relevant details. According to the report, Call Context uses information about who the user is calling, not what the user is saying, to display the necessary information.
Call Context will be available on iPhone 15 Pro and later. 9to5Mac said iOS 27 is currently in testing with developers and public beta users and will be released to everyone in September.
