Apple adds Messages Suggestions controls, smart lock features and Music redesign in iOS 27.2 beta
Apple’s iOS 27.2 beta adds Messages Suggestions toggles, Home smart lock settings and a black-and-white Music redesign.
In iOS 27.2 beta 4, Apple added an option to enable or disable different types of suggestions in the Messages app. The Suggestions feature was originally planned for iOS 27.0 but was pulled from the summer beta. It lets users take action on a received message, such as creating a calendar event or reminder based on the message’s content. Under Settings, Apps, Messages, Suggested Actions, users now find toggles for five suggestion types: Add to Calendar, Add to Reminders, Add to Notes, Show in Maps, and Flights and Packages.
The beta also introduced a pair of Home app features for smart locks, discovered by leaker pdfu. The “Lock After Closing” setting appears when a compatible smart lock is connected and lets users choose how quickly the door automatically locks after it has been closed. A second option, “Door Left Open,” allows users to program automatic alerts if a door is left open. Users can select Off or alerts after 5, 10, 15, or 30 minutes.
The Home features arrived in a week of Apple Home announcements that also included HomeView, a new Apple TV 4K, HomePod mini 2, and an Apple Home collection.
Apple Music received unexpected design changes in iOS 27.2 beta 4, including a new app icon, a changed accent color, and refreshed widgets. Apple has removed the app’s iconic red accent color from its branding. App icons are now simple black and white, and widgets lose red backgrounds in favor of black. The Music app’s tab bar now uses a blue accent color for the active tab, where it previously used red. Online reception to the changes has been overwhelmingly negative so far, according to 9to5Mac, and it remains to be seen whether Apple reverts any of the design updates. They appear to be part of a broader rebranding effort for Apple Music.
