Apple Announces First Foldable iPhone Duo at $1,999

Apple unveiled its first foldable, iPhone Duo, at $1,999, with two screens and strong preorder demand.

The iPhone Duo uses a “nano-texture” finish on the inner screen and has what The Verge described as barely any visible crease. It replaces Face ID with Touch ID on the power button and carries two cameras, a main lens and a wide-angle lens. The base model has 256GB of storage and starts at $1,999; higher configurations cost more, according to the report. The Verge said the phone is not cheap.

Apple has revamped iOS 27’s controls and apps for the foldable, including moving the dock to the side of the phone, The Verge reported. The device also shows an opening animation when it is unfolded.

Apple said preorder demand for the iPhone Duo was “extraordinary,” according to The Verge. The report said orders were already delayed into 2027. The Verge said the demand could make the device a hit.

The Verge also reported that repairing the iPhone Duo’s folding screen costs as much as a new iPhone. It described the iPhone Duo as a big new bet for Apple and one that arrives later than comparable products from Samsung and Google. The Verge said the hardware does not look special but that the software might be.
