Apple Arcade adds Retro Bowl College+ with unlocked features

Apple Arcade has added Retro Bowl College+, a retro-style college football game from New Star Games, with paid features unlocked and no in-app purchases.

The game keeps the series' deliberately old-school approach, with simple touch gestures for passing, moving the ball carrier, and kicking, while defense is largely simulated. Between drives, players manage ratings, morale, facilities, budgets, and off-field issues involving college athletes.

A new League Style option lets players adjust seeding, conference alignments, and available teams to match league structures from previous seasons, and the game includes updated league data for 2026. The standard App Store version of Retro Bowl College has also received League Style, according to Engadget.

Apple Arcade's football lineup is expanding, with Madden NFL 27 Arcade Edition already on the service and NFL Retro Bowl '27, another New Star game, scheduled for September 3.

The retro styling traces back to the original Retro Bowl, released in January 2020. New Star Games' creator Simon Read said revisiting Tecmo football games from the 1980s and 1990s was all the inspiration he needed. Retro Bowl College followed in September 2023, adding recruiting, limited budgets, and GPA monitoring to the original formula.

Engadget notes that which Retro Bowl is best depends on preference: the original focuses on pro football, College adds recruiting and academic management, while the NFL editions bring licensed teams and players. Apple Arcade now carries the whole Retro Bowl series.
