Apple begins beta testing iOS 27.2, expected in October with a new Health app, TV profiles and more Siri AI languages.

The beta started on Sept. 16, two days after Apple released iOS 27 on Sept. 14. Apple did not release iOS 27.1 for most iPhones because that version will ship with the iPhone Duo when the device is released on Oct. 23. iOS 27.1 includes many references to the iPhone Duo that Apple wants to keep private until the device ships, so it will be exclusive to that model. The software paths for the iPhone Duo and other iPhones will then converge, either in an iOS 27.2.x update or perhaps iOS 27.3.

The redesigned Health app that Apple showed at its iPhone 18 Pro event has entered beta testing as part of iOS 27.2. It is split into three tabs: Insights, Longevity and Browse. The app has a new design that adapts based on user data and Apple Intelligence. The Longevity tab includes a Health age feature that uses Apple Watch data to show how a user's metrics compare with their actual age. The new Health app likely will not be released with iOS 27.2 next month; Apple is starting beta testing before releasing it to everyone later this year.

iOS 27.2 also adds profiles to the Apple TV app on iPhone for the first time. The feature has been available on tvOS for several years.

Siri AI, the main new feature in iOS 27, gains support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish in iOS 27.2.

For FaceTime, iOS 27 introduced Dual Capture, which lets a user have the front and rear cameras active at the same time so the other person can see both the user and what the user is looking at. iOS 27.2 expands Dual Capture to Group FaceTime calls for the first time. It requires an iPhone 17 or later, and everyone on the call must be running iOS 27.

In Apple Podcasts, the Up Next queue has been renamed New Episodes, with Continue Playing directly below it. Episode lists now use color-matched backgrounds based on podcast art. In the Music app, some red icons and accents have been changed to black. The Call Context feature, which shows information on screen when calling a business, now includes anniversaries. The Clock app's alarm interface has smaller text for AM and PM labels.

Code in iOS 27.2 also points to features that are not live yet but appear to be in development inside Apple, including live countdowns for new album releases in Apple Music, third-party app support for Describe a Shortcut, new themes for CarPlay Ultra and an anti-snatching feature for iPhone.

The update is expected in October. Apple has promised that Siri AI will come to new languages in October, and iOS 27.2 adds those languages, so the release needs to arrive before November for Apple to meet that promise.
