Apple Car Key Reportedly Expands to Lincoln, Freelander and Lucid in Backend Code

The discovery was spotted by Aaron Perris on X, 9to5Mac reported. Backend changes are often a sign of upcoming Car Key support, but the code does not indicate when the feature will actually launch. Apple has also not confirmed which specific vehicles will support it.

The change follows other backend references tied to potential Car Key additions. In July, similar references appeared for GWM's Tank vehicles, followed shortly afterward by Haval, another brand owned by the same Chinese automaker, according to the report. Apple had previously announced that Lucid would adopt Car Key, alongside a list of brands that included Acura, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Porsche and Rivian.

Apple introduced Car Key at WWDC 2020. The feature lets drivers use an iPhone or Apple Watch to lock, unlock and start a compatible vehicle, with support varying by automaker and model. It currently works with more than 50 vehicle models from brands including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, Toyota and Rivian, 9to5Mac said.
