Apple confirms iPhone 18 Pro Max AT&T cellular issue, affected devices require hardware replacement
Apple says a small number of iPhone 18 Pro Max devices on AT&T have lost cellular service, and units already affected require hardware replacement. Software and carrier updates released this week are meant to prevent new cases.
The company released iOS 27.0.1 earlier this week and is issuing a carrier settings update today, Apple told 9to5Mac. In a statement to the publication, Apple said it had identified an issue affecting a small number of iPhone 18 Pro Max users on AT&T that may cause a device to lose service and be unable to make calls. Apple strongly encouraged all iPhone 18 Pro Max users to update now, saying the software and carrier updates together are meant to help prevent the issue from occurring.
The carrier settings update for the iPhone 18 Pro Max will download automatically over the next 14 days, according to Apple. Users can also manually trigger the download by going to Settings, choosing General, then About.
Apple said the software updates will help prevent future issues for iPhone 18 Pro Max users on AT&T, but will not restore service on devices that have already lost it. Users who have already lost service should contact Apple Support or AT&T, or visit an Apple Store or AT&T location, the company said.
As 9to5Mac reported earlier in the day, affected iPhone 18 Pro Max users cannot connect to AT&T's network for calls, texts, and data. Their iPhone status bar shows "SOS." The connectivity issues are not affecting every iPhone 18 Pro Max user on AT&T.
