Apple expected to launch touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro and more at October 28 event

A report says Apple will hold an event in Los Angeles on October 28 to launch its first touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro, an OLED iPad mini, and M6-powered iMac and entry-level MacBook Pro models.

The event had previously been expected a day earlier, according to Gurman, and would be Apple’s second event this month. The October 28 date and the invite activity were reported by 9to5Mac, which said the launch is now set for Los Angeles.

The most closely watched product at the event is expected to be a new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro line with OLED displays and touchscreens. Recent reporting has suggested that expectations for a much slimmer design should be toned down, though the machines are still expected to be “significantly lighter” than current models, the report says. The new MacBook Pro models are also expected to replace the notch with a Dynamic Island and to be powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.

Apple is expected to introduce a new iPad mini with an OLED screen at the same event. According to the report, the tablet is believed to move the FaceTime camera to support landscape rather than portrait use, and to include a revamped speaker system.

The company is also expected to show new iMac and entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro models powered by the M6 chip. Those devices are expected to have an unchanged design and to represent a chip update, the report says.

9to5Mac said the touchscreen MacBook Pro will likely grab headlines. It noted that while recent reporting suggests the new machines may not be much slimmer, they are still expected to be significantly lighter than current models.

The report comes as Apple has begun sending invitations to selected media representatives, according to 9to5Mac. Gurman had previously reported the event would take place on October 27; his newer report places it on October 28 in Los Angeles. The event is expected to include the OLED iPad mini alongside the M6-powered MacBook Pro and iMac, 9to5Mac reported.
