Apple Expected to Unveil New Apple TV 4K at Tuesday 'Welcome home' Event

A new Apple TV 4K is expected to debut Tuesday at Apple's 'Welcome home' event, the first refresh since 2022. Reported upgrades include an A19 chip, Siri AI, a microphone inside the box, an updated Siri Remote with a speaker, and the N1 wireless chip.

The device is expected to move from the A15 Bionic chip that has powered the current model to an A19 chip. According to the report, that change should make the Apple TV 4K run more smoothly than existing hardware and represents a significant step up from the 2022 version. The chip is also expected to be what makes support for Siri AI possible.

Siri AI sits at the center of the rumored update. The changes go beyond software: the report says Apple plans to build a microphone into the Apple TV 4K box itself. Similar to a HomePod, that would allow users to interact with Siri entirely by voice, without pressing a button on the Siri Remote. The report speculates that users may even be able to ask Siri to find the remote, which would play a sound on the new Siri Remote so it can be located.

The Siri Remote is also expected to be updated with a built-in speaker, a second change tied directly to the voice-control push. A fifth rumored addition is Apple's N1 wireless chip, which the report says is expected to improve reliability for features such as AirDrop and could connect to other Apple Home-related improvements.

The five reported features are the A19 chip, Siri AI, a microphone built into the Apple TV box for Siri, an updated Siri Remote with a built-in speaker, and the N1 wireless chip. Apple has not confirmed any of them, and the report notes the company could still announce features that have not been rumored. The Tuesday event is expected to cover several long-awaited Home products, with the Apple TV 4K among them rather than the only item on the agenda.

Apple's last Apple TV 4K update arrived in 2022, making this week's expected launch the first refresh in roughly four years. The report says it will carry all announcements from the event as they are made.
