Apple Home's Apple Intelligence Camera Features Cost Up to $60 a Month

Apple has added Apple Intelligence to HomeKit Secure Video with iOS 27 and tvOS 27, but the new video summaries, search, and multi-camera stitching require iCloud Plus plans costing up to $59.99 a month.

To use the features, Apple requires a $9.99 monthly 2TB iCloud Plus plan, or a $39.95 monthly Apple One Premier subscription, for one camera, according to The Verge. An Apple support page says adding Apple Intelligence to a second camera requires the $29.99 monthly 6TB plan. For up to five cameras, the price rises to $59.99 a month for the 12TB plan. Apple has not said whether more than five cameras can be added. Recordings from HomeKit-connected cameras do not count toward the storage quota.

HomeKit Secure Video has long required a subscription, but its entry price was $1 a month for the 50GB iCloud Plus plan, which includes recorded footage from one camera plus smart alerts and facial recognition. Additional cameras moved users to the 2TB plan at $9.99 a month for up to five cameras, or the 6TB plan at $29.99 a month or higher for unlimited cameras. The Apple Intelligence features represent a steep increase over those prices.

The Verge's reviewer, who tested the features in beta, pays $40 a month for Apple One Premier, which includes 2TB of iCloud storage and HomeKit Secure Video support for five cameras. Under the new pricing tier, that subscription keeps those benefits and adds Apple Intelligence for one camera. Getting Apple Intelligence on all five cameras would require an additional $60 a month, or $720 a year, for a total of $1,200. The reviewer called the improved video features useful but said they do not justify the larger price increase.

Amazon's Ring and Google Nest charge around $20 a month for subscription tiers that include similar AI-powered camera features, and both offer more features than Apple currently does, according to The Verge. An iCloud Plus plan also includes storage for photos, files, and device backups, and higher plans may increase limits for Siri AI and other Apple Intelligence features, but Apple has not released details about those limits.

Existing HomeKit Secure Video features are unchanged, and the new software releases include under-the-hood upgrades that improve speed and reliability. The service now supports 4K video resolution. Even so, The Verge said that while Apple Intelligence feels like a significant improvement for Apple Home, the value is not there at these prices.
