Apple Leaks Reveal New HomePod mini, iPad mini 8, Apple TV 4K; Amazon Cuts Apple Prices

The new HomePod mini, referred to as the HomePod mini 2, will keep a design similar to the model that debuted in late 2020, according to the leaked images. The current HomePod mini is sold in orange, yellow, and blue, while the leaked images show green, pink, blue, white, and black. 9to5Mac reported that green, pink, and blue appear to be new additions to the lineup, joining white and black, and that the shades are more subdued than the current bright colors.

The iPad mini 8 will replace the seventh-generation model released in October 2024, moving from Apple's A17 Pro chip to the A20 Pro. Leaked images show only the front of the tablet, but they indicate that Apple has moved the front-facing camera to the landscape edge, matching the placement on other iPads. A groove or speaker cutout at the top edge of the display, similar to the iPhone, suggests an added speaker. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has reported that the next iPad mini could also feature improved water resistance through a new vibration-based speaker and an OLED display like the larger iPad Pro. Gurman has said the new iPad mini is expected by the end of October.

The next Apple TV 4K, described as a fourth-generation model, appears to retain the same external design as the current version, which is nearly four years old. The leaks did not reveal much about internal upgrades. Previous reports from MacRumors' Perris have pointed to a possible A17 Pro chip, while Gurman said in 2024 that the next Apple TV would use Apple's in-house Bluetooth and Wi-Fi chip now known as the N1. The Verge reported that the leaked details are sparse for the HomePod mini and Apple TV compared with the iPad mini.

Separately, Amazon's early fall Prime Day sale has been updated with discounts on several Apple and Beats products, according to 9to5Mac. AirPods Pro 3 are $50 off at $199, down from $249, and the new M5 Max Mac Studio with 36GB of RAM and 512GB of storage is $2,449, down from $2,499. Powerbeats Pro 2 are $199.95 at Amazon, a $50 discount from the $250 list price, while Best Buy lists excellent-condition open-box units at $134 for Hyper Purple, $138 for Quick Sand, $146 for Jet Black, and $152 for Electric Orange. Beats 360 over-ear headphones are $350, and the modular Beats 360 Cushion Kit is $10, down from $50. The Ring Battery Doorbell 2K is $40, a 60% drop and an all-time low, and 9to5Mac also highlighted exclusive iPhone 18 Pro case deals and chargers.

9to5Mac said the AirPods Pro 3 discount is part of an ongoing price drop that could go lower when Amazon's official Prime Big Deal Days sale begins on October 6 or sooner. The outlet noted that Amazon has previously offered the earbuds at $189, $179, and as low as $169 during earlier sales.
