Apple Limits iOS 27.1 to iPhone Duo as Other iPhones Jump to iOS 27.2
Apple has released iOS 27.1 only for iPhone Duo, while other iPhones will get iOS 27.2 next week, 9to5Mac reports.
The outlet reported that iOS 27.0.1 remains the most recent update shown in Settings for other iPhones because iOS 27.1 is limited to the iPhone Duo. Apple decided to skip iOS 27.1 for most iPhone models and go straight to iOS 27.2, an unusual move for the company, according to the report.
iOS 27.2 has been in beta testing for the past month and is scheduled to ship to all users next week, the report said. It includes Suggested Actions in Messages, a new app icon and updated design for Apple Music, user profiles in Apple TV, an overhauled Up Next queue in Apple Podcasts, Dual Capture for group calls in FaceTime, and support for more languages in Siri AI.
The report said bypassing a beta cycle for iOS 27.1 allowed Apple to keep many details about the iPhone Duo hidden until its official launch. The device was officially unveiled last month, but 9to5Mac reported that several features and details have only recently become known.
The report also pointed to likely engineering reasons. It said the iPhone Duo introduces custom iOS designs and features, and managing them internally was probably easier when iOS 27.1 was kept separate from other models and new features. 9to5Mac said users who see iOS 27.2 available next week should not assume they missed iOS 27.1 entirely.
