Apple Maps Begins Showing Ads in US and Canada
Apple has started rolling out ads in Apple Maps in the US and Canada, appearing in search and suggested places with a blue 'Ad' badge and privacy protections.
The outlet reported that Apple confirmed the ads rollout began in the last few days. Apple earlier this year said Maps would get ads in the US and Canada starting this summer, and the company has now met that target.
Ads appear in two places in the Maps app: before a search, as featured placements on the search screen, and after a search, in relevant search results. The ads look like standard business listings but include a small blue badge that says “Ad.”
Apple said the ads in Maps build on its broader privacy-first approach to advertising and maintain the same privacy protections Maps users already have. According to Apple Newsroom, a user’s location and the ads they see and interact with in Maps are not associated with their Apple Account. Personal data stays on the user’s device, is not collected or stored by Apple, and is not shared with third parties.
For businesses interested in booking ads, Apple is offering a promotional deal, as detailed on its advertising page.
