Apple Opens App Store Submissions for iPhone Duo Apps Ahead of October Launch
Apple is accepting iPhone Duo apps built with Xcode 27.1, which adds an App Store badge. Duo screenshots become mandatory in April 2027.
Submissions must be built or recompiled with Xcode 27.1. Apple released Xcode 27.1 Release Candidate 1 the same day, after several betas that added support for building and testing apps and games for the iPhone Duo. According to Apple, an app or game built with that version will display a badge on its App Store product page to indicate it is optimized for the new device.
Apple also said that starting April 2027, any app or game submitted to App Store Connect will need to include iPhone Duo screenshots. That requirement applies to all submissions, not only those taking advantage of the new development support.
Recompiling an existing app with Xcode 27.1 adds development support for the iPhone Duo, and developers can use Device Hub to see how their apps behave on the device across all poses and orientations, the company said. Apple pointed developers to its design guidance and templates, its tools for managing App Store assets, and its specifications for app previews and screenshots. It also said it will hold in-person iPhone Duo workshops over the next few days, with registration available online.
The iPhone Duo will be available for pre-order starting Friday, October 16, with deliveries and in-store availability beginning October 23. Apple has said customers can get ready for iPhone Duo pre-orders beginning October 12.
