Apple Releases iOS 27.2 and macOS 27.2 Public Betas, Second RCs for Tahoe and Sequoia

Apple released the first public betas for iOS 27.2 and macOS 27.2 Golden Gate, plus second release candidates for macOS Tahoe 26.7.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.8.1, as it moves most platforms past the iOS 27.1 cycle tied to the iPhone Duo.

The macOS 27.2 Golden Gate public beta 1 carries build 26B5091g, the same build as the second developer beta. Apple had skipped the macOS 27.1 beta cycle and released the first developer beta of macOS 27.2 Golden Gate last week. 9to5Mac reported that the move appears related to the iPhone Duo, which will ship with iOS 27.1 when it launches on October 23. iOS 27.1 is likely focused primarily on features and changes specific to the new foldable, leading Apple to move the rest of its operating systems straight to 27.2 for beta testing. The macOS 27.2 beta adds Siri AI language support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish in addition to English, matching Apple's promise for October.

The first iOS 27.2 public beta follows six days after the first developer beta and one day after the second developer beta. iOS 27.2 is the next release after the official launch of iOS 27 on September 14, while iOS 27.1 is only for the iPhone Duo. Apple has detailed how the iOS 27.1 SDK will let developers take full advantage of the iPhone Duo display, and it released Xcode 27.1 beta on Friday with an iPhone Duo simulator and app development support for the new foldable. The first iOS 27.2 developer beta included Apple's redesigned Health app, which was first announced during the iPhone 18 Pro event; dual capture mode in Group FaceTime; Siri AI support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish; Apple TV app profiles on iPhone; changes to Apple Podcasts, where Up Next became New Episodes and the Continue Playing section sits directly below New Episodes, with color-matched backgrounds on episode lists; and an Apple Music change that uses less of the icon's color for labels in the app. 9to5Mac reported that the iOS 27.2 public beta presumably includes the new iPhone Health app. iOS 27.2 is set to be released officially in October.

Separately, Apple rolled out the second release candidates for macOS Tahoe 26.7.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.8.1, less than a week after the first release candidates. The macOS Tahoe 26.7.1 RC 2 build is 25G313, and the macOS Sequoia 15.8.1 second RC build is 24H212. Apple later released corresponding public release candidates with the same builds as the second developer RCs. The company has said only that the updates provide important security fixes and are recommended for all users. Apple will likely release security details once the updates launch officially in the coming weeks.
