Apple Releases iOS 27.2 Beta 1, Skipping 27.1 With Health App, Apple TV Profiles and Expanded Siri AI

Apple has released the first developer betas of iOS 27.2 and companion updates, skipping the expected 27.1 cycle. The iOS beta adds a redesigned Health app, Apple TV profiles, expanded Siri AI language support and EU App Tracking Transparency changes.

The iOS 27.2 beta includes the redesigned Apple Health app that Apple announced at its September event. The app is designed to respond dynamically to a user's data using Apple Intelligence, with a new Insights tab for timely health information and a Longevity tab that analyzes longitudinal health data. The Longevity tab includes Health Age, an Apple Watch feature that shows how certain metrics track relative to a user's actual age. The Health app also adds movement evaluations that measure flexibility, strength, balance and more using vision-based AI models on iPhone and heart rate data from Apple Watch. The new health features require an AI-compatible iPhone, and certain features require a paired Apple Watch, so devices older than iPhone 15 Pro or without a compatible watch will not receive the upgrades.

The beta also expands Siri AI language support to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, according to 9to5Mac. Apple has said Siri AI is rolling out as a beta in English, with the additional languages coming in October. Other changes found in iOS 27.2 beta 1 include Dual Capture mode in FaceTime, Apple TV app profiles on iPhone, a rename of Up Next to New Episodes in Apple Podcasts, and a smaller color footprint for Apple Music labels.

In the Apple TV app, iOS 27.2 beta 1 presents existing profiles tied to an account and an option to add a profile, with a 'Don't Show This Again' button for users who do not want profiles on iPhone. As in tvOS, selecting a child's profile limits the TV app to shows and movies that match the permitted content rating. Apple previously added profiles without an Apple Account and kid-profile content limits in tvOS 26.2 last December, but those features had been limited to TV-based devices.

Apple also said that starting with iOS 27.2, developers will have the option to use an alternative App Tracking Transparency system prompt in the EU under a deal with the bloc. In Germany, France, Italy, Poland and Romania, only the alternative version of the system prompt is available for apps distributed there because of legal requirements. The alternative prompt has modified formatting and language and offers an 'Additional Information' text button, Apple said, allowing developers to provide more detail about requests to link user or device data from their app with data from other companies' apps, websites or offline properties for targeted advertising or advertising measurement, or to share data with a data broker. EU developers can also re-prompt users one year after their previous ATT choice, whether the user initially accepted or declined tracking. The changes follow an investigation by Germany's Federal Cartel Office into whether Apple's ATT rules disadvantaged third-party apps; Apple has denied the allegations and agreed to eight changes in the ATT framework in Europe.

On the Mac, Apple released macOS 27.2 beta 1 with build 26B5086k, skipping the 27.1 betas. During its 'Surprise and Shine' event earlier this month, Apple said the new Siri AI would expand from English to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish in October, and developers may find those languages in the first beta. Apple has not confirmed a new rollout date for two features announced at WWDC that did not make the initial macOS 27 release: an agentic feature in Passwords that automatically changes leaked passwords, and suggestions in Messages conversations.

Apple also released developer beta 1 for watchOS 27.2, tvOS 27.2 and visionOS 27.2, a wave that arrived sooner than expected. The company had confirmed iOS 27.1 would ship in October before the iPhone Duo launches, and the watchOS 27.2 release now suggests companion updates may follow shortly after. 9to5Mac suggested Apple may keep 27.1 focused on iPhone Duo software optimizations, with no substantial changes beyond security fixes and compatibility.

iPadOS 27.2 beta 1 likewise skipped iPadOS 27.1. It is unclear why Apple did not designate the update as 27.1. Shortly before iPadOS 27 shipped, Apple removed the Suggestions feature in Messages and the Passwords app option to have compromised logins agentically replaced with secure new logins. Apple has not said when those features will return, but 9to5Mac said they might appear in the beta, along with the redesigned Health app.
