Apple releases TestFlight 4.3.1 to fix app-list sorting bug

Apple's TestFlight 4.3.1 update fixes an app-list sorting regression introduced in July.

The problem arose with the previous TestFlight 4.3 update, which added a search field to help users quickly find apps. That release also changed the way beta tests are presented. Expired betas, which were previously listed in reverse chronological order, became alphabetically mingled with active betas. Moreover, the list expanded to include nearly every beta a user had ever joined, making it much harder to locate the few active test apps.

In August, John Vorhees of MacStories wrote that his list had grown to roughly 800 app listings, with active betas few and far between. Search helped, he said, but scrolling was no longer an option. John Gruber of Daring Fireball also complained that the alphabetical order seemed to be applied by default, not just to search results, and left him irritated every day. Gruber said he assumed the change was an accidental bug rather than a deliberate design choice.

More than a month after the regression was first reported, Apple updated TestFlight to version 4.3.1. The release notes only mention bug fixes, but the update does restore the expected sorting order, according to 9to5Mac. Users affected by the issue should update the app from the App Store.
