Apple reportedly prototyped a stylus for its foldable iPhone, but it may never ship
Apple reportedly prototyped a foldable iPhone stylus, but it likely won't launch with the device, per Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.
Gurman said Apple has "internally prototyped, tested and considered launching" a modified Apple Pencil for the foldable. The prototype is "stubbier" than existing Apple Pencil models used with iPads. Like current models, it would attach to the side of the foldable iPhone for storage and charging.
That attachment point poses a major problem, Gurman said, because it would get in the way when the foldable is opened and the stylus is not in use. He also noted that a stylus could leave marks on the display, as foldable screens tend to be more delicate. Samsung offers certain S Pens that only work with its foldable smartphones. Whether the stylus moves beyond the prototype stage will be clear at the September 9 event.
On a more certain note, Gurman said Apple is testing white and dark gray ceramic case options for the upcoming Apple Watch Series 12. The company is also testing a smartwatch feature that would keep the heart-rate sensor collecting data throughout the day, rather than only during physical activity or at random intervals. Additionally, Apple is revamping its fitness and health app to look more like those from Whoop and Oura, Gurman reported.
For those considering an upgrade, Gurman said the Apple Watch is more likely to see a major redesign next year, though the timeline could slip to 2028.
