Apple's iOS 27.2 Expected in Late October, With iOS 27.1 Limited to iPhone Duo

iOS 27.2, now in beta, is expected in late October with new Siri languages, Apple TV profiles and Dual Capture FaceTime.

The iPhone Duo goes on sale October 23 running iOS 27.1, and 9to5Mac reports that all indications point to no other iPhone receiving that build. Other devices are expected to move straight from iOS 27 to iOS 27.2. By keeping iOS 27.1 exclusive to the new model, Apple can avoid exposing details of the Duo's software experience during a public beta, which is why iOS 27.2 has been in testing instead.

The beta period has already run for several weeks, earlier than a x.2 release would normally enter testing. The October timing is also indicated by Siri. When iOS 27 was introduced last month, Apple said Siri AI would add support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish "next month." Those language additions are part of iOS 27.2, which places the release in October.

Other additions listed for iOS 27.2 include user profiles in the Apple TV app, Dual Capture for Group FaceTime, a new Suggestions feature in Messages, an overhaul of the Up Next queue in Apple Podcasts, and design updates for Apple Books.

Apple has historically shipped the first feature update following a major new operating system in late October, and 9to5Mac expects the same pattern this year, with the week of October 26 the most likely launch window. The update could arrive somewhat earlier, particularly if new hardware introduced next week ships with it pre-installed, though the rumored home products are not expected to ship immediately. First orders could instead be delivered during that last week of October, at the same time as iOS 27.2, tvOS 27.2 and HomePod 27.2.
