Apple's iPhone Duo wallpapers surface in Xcode 27.1 beta after iOS 27 omits them

Apple announced the iPhone Duo earlier in September, and the wallpapers shown with the device depict sand dunes set against a mountain range. They were produced in separate light and dark versions rather than as a single image that adapts to the system appearance.

On the same day the iPhone Duo was announced, Apple shipped the release candidate build of iOS 27.0, which included the company's official wallpapers for the new iPhone 18 Pro. That software did not carry the wallpapers for the iPhone Duo, so the artwork Apple had displayed alongside its foldable was not available to anyone running the release candidate.

The Xcode 27.1 beta closed that gap. Xcode is Apple's development tool, and its iPhone Simulator reproduces the software environment of the company's phones; the beta includes all four iPhone Duo wallpapers, two for light mode and two for dark mode. Because the images sit inside the simulator, they can be extracted and saved by users rather than remaining limited to the device itself.

9to5Mac advised readers to open each image and save it at full resolution before applying it as a wallpaper, instead of relying on a preview copy. Apple publishes support documents that explain how to set wallpapers on iPhone, iPad and Mac.

The report did not say whether Apple plans to add the iPhone Duo wallpapers to a later iOS 27 release or to ship them with the foldable when it reaches customers. The only confirmed route to the four images at present is the developer beta of Xcode 27.1.
