Apple's Redesigned MacBook Pro Rumored to Drop Notch, Add Thinner Body and Larger Displays
Apple is reportedly preparing a redesigned MacBook Pro that removes the notch, adds a Dynamic Island camera cutout, becomes significantly lighter, and offers slightly larger 14.3-inch and 16.3-inch displays.
The current MacBook Pro design introduced the notch to the Mac line in 2021, and 9to5Mac reports that the redesigned model will remove it. Instead, the new MacBook Pro will have a small camera cutout and a Dynamic Island built in. Mark Gurman has reported that the Dynamic Island on the Mac will be built around a hole-punch-sized cutout for the computer's camera, smaller than the pill-shaped notch in current iPhones. 9to5Mac says the notch replacement could be similar to the hole-punch camera on the outer display of the iPhone Duo.
The new MacBook Pro is also expected to be thinner and lighter. Bloomberg reported earlier this week that the new MacBook Pros are lighter—significantly lighter—and that Apple has reengineered the machine's interior by miniaturizing parts and rearranging components to make the computer easier to carry. It is unknown whether slimming the MacBook Pro will result in any ports being removed. Apple's current MacBook Pro design brought back many ports that had been removed in the prior iteration, and 9to5Mac says it would be surprising for the company to strip ports yet again.
Display sizes may increase slightly as well. An Omdia report this summer said the redesigned MacBook Pro will come in two screen sizes: 14.3 inches and 16.3 inches. If accurate, that is a very slight increase over the current 14.2-inch and 16.2-inch sizes. 9to5Mac says it is possible Apple will reduce the bezels a bit to achieve a larger usable display area. It is also possible that the overall form factor will get slightly larger to help provide extra space for components despite the thinner body, but there are no specific rumors around these details yet.
