Apple's rumored M6 roadmap: MacBook Pro and iMac this fall, MacBook Air and iPad Pro in 2027

Apple will add M6 to a 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac this fall, then to MacBook Air and iPad Pro in early 2027, 9to5Mac reports.

The fall launches are expected in October or early November, 9to5Mac reported. The MacBook Pro will be only the 14-inch base model. Mark Gurman has reported that Apple is skipping Pro and Max versions of the M6 chip, so only the entry MacBook Pro will get M6 while the next Pro-level chips will be M7 Pro and M7 Max in 2027.

Apple's new iMac is not expected to change much beyond the M6 chip. The only other rumored upgrade is a fresh slate of colors. 9to5Mac said the jump from M4 to M6 should still make the new model a worthwhile update.

The rumored touchscreen MacBook Pro or Ultra is not part of the M6 list. It is expected to launch soon, but it will use M5 Pro and M5 Max chips instead of M6, according to the report.

After this fall, the next products rumored to get M6 upgrades are the MacBook Air and iPad Pro. A new M6 MacBook Air is expected in early 2027, with the February-April window possible; based on Apple's history, March is a safe bet, 9to5Mac reported. Other than the chip upgrade, there are minimal rumors about the new MacBook Air. It should retain the same design as the M5 model, and an OLED upgrade is not expected before 2028, so the display will likely be unchanged.

Apple last updated the iPad Pro in fall 2025, when it received the M5 chip. Rumors point to a spring 2027 update, which would follow the product's typical 18-month upgrade cycle. Beyond the M6 chip, the new iPad Pro is expected to add a vapor chamber for cooling, which should boost sustained performance in the ultra-thin device.

One potential M6 benefit for both the MacBook Air and iPad Pro is better battery life. Apple says the M6’s 2-nanometer process brings “a major leap in performance and power efficiency.”
