Apple's September Event Rumored to Unveil Foldable iPhone, New Pro Models, and More

According to several reports, Apple is widely expected to introduce its first foldable iPhone, possibly named “iPhone Ultra.” The device is said to feature a 5.5-inch outer display and a 7.8-inch inner screen, with a thickness of 4.5 mm when unfolded and about 9 mm when folded, potentially making it Apple’s thinnest device yet. The displays are expected to use ultra-thin glass supplied by Lens Technology, with Corning providing raw materials, and Samsung as the display panel maker. Reports claim the foldable will use a liquid-metal hinge and a structured glass frame to minimize the crease, which could be less than 0.15 mm deep.

For internals, the iPhone Ultra is rumored to use an A20 Pro chip built on TSMC’s 2nm process, with 12GB of RAM, a 24-megapixel under-display front camera, and dual 48-megapixel rear cameras. It may skip Face ID in favor of a Touch ID power button to save space. Battery capacity estimates vary between about 4,883 mAh and 5,400–5,800 mAh, according to different sources. Pricing is expected to range from $2,000 to $2,500, as predicted by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. However, there are conflicting reports on availability: some supply chain sources suggest shipments could begin in September, while Kuo believes pre-orders may not open until the fourth quarter, similar to the iPhone X launch.

Alongside the foldable, Apple is likely to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. These models are said to adopt the A20 Pro chip, a smaller Dynamic Island (35% smaller per leaker IceUniverse), an upgraded LTPO+ OLED display, a variable-aperture main camera, and Apple’s C2 modem with N2 network chip. The Pro Max may be slightly thicker and have a battery nearly 10% larger than the current generation. Prices for the Pro lineup could rise by $200–$300 over the previous models.

New Apple Watch models, including the Series 12 and Ultra 4, are expected to focus on health features such as continuous heart-rate monitoring, though that feature is still in testing. Ceramic case options may return in white and dark gray, per Mark Gurman.

In the audio and smart home categories, AirPods 5 are a possibility, while camera-equipped AirPods have reportedly been delayed to 2027. HomePod mini 2 and a new Apple TV 4K are also rumored, with Wi-Fi 7, Apple’s N1 chip, and improved Siri. Apple’s first Home Hub, in desktop and wall-mounted versions, may appear, supporting FaceTime and HomeKit management.

Software release dates for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and other systems are expected, but no reliable leaks confirm the rumored homeOS or when Apple Intelligence might launch in mainland China.
