Apple sets Oct. 28 'Pro and tell' event, with touchscreen MacBook Pro expected

Apple will hold a "Pro and tell" event in Los Angeles on Oct. 28, with new Macs and an OLED iPad mini expected.

The October 28 event follows Apple's October 13 "Welcome home" launch in New York City, where the company introduced the HomeView smart display, HomePod mini 2 and a new Apple TV 4K. Coverage differed on how to count the latest event: 9to5Mac and The Verge described it as Apple's second launch this month, while Engadget called it the company's third product event of the season. Engadget also reported that the event is said to be an all-day affair.

Apple has not confirmed the product lineup. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that the main announcement is expected to be 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with OLED touchscreens, which would be Apple's first touchscreen MacBook Pro, according to 9to5Mac. The laptops are expected to use M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, include a Dynamic Island for the first time and be "significantly lighter" than current models, 9to5Mac reported.

Gurman also reported a revamped iPad mini with an OLED screen, a "revamped speaker system" and a relocated FaceTime camera. The Verge reported that the updated iPad mini would put the selfie camera on the landscape edge. Apple is also expected to refresh the iMac and add an entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M6 chip; those models are expected to look like their current versions, according to 9to5Mac. Engadget reported that the M6 debuted in August in the latest Mac mini.

Apple's invite used only the "Pro and tell" tagline. The reports did not include pricing or release dates.
