Apple Sets October 28 Event for New MacBook Pro and iPad Mini

Apple has scheduled an October 28 hardware event, with a redesigned MacBook Pro and an OLED iPad mini expected.

9to5Mac reported that the redesigned MacBook Pro is expected to be the star of the event, with a lighter and slightly thinner industrial design, an OLED display, touchscreen support, M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, and a hole-punch camera with Dynamic Island instead of a notch. The model is not expected to replace Apple's current MacBook Pro lineup but to debut as a new, higher-end option. Early rumors suggested the name "MacBook Ultra," but 9to5Mac said that appears unlikely because the event tagline uses "Pro."

Apple is also expected to update the iPad mini with an OLED display, making it the only iPad besides the iPad Pro to use the panel technology, according to 9to5Mac. The report said the tablet is expected to use the A20 Pro chip from the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo, move its front-facing camera to prioritize landscape use, and gain improved water resistance and a more powerful speaker system.

9to5Mac reported that a new iMac with an M6 chip will debut with refreshed color options; the chip is expected to bring a 12-core CPU, 12-core GPU and dual 16-core Neural Engine, matching the M6 Mac mini currently on sale. Apple is also expected to launch an entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M6 chip, retaining the current design and display technology while offering more performance and potentially better battery life.

The event would follow a busy fall for Apple. Android Authority reported that the company started with the iPhone 18 Pro lineup and its first foldable, the iPhone Duo, then last week announced a smart home lineup including the HomeView display and a family of Apple Home connected devices. 9to5Mac reported that the HomeView launch came alongside a new Apple TV and HomePod mini.
