Apple ships iOS 27.0.1, iPadOS 27.0.1, iOS 26.7.1 and macOS security updates

Apple released iOS 27.0.1 to fix iPhone 18 Pro Face ID restarts and other bugs, plus iOS 26.7.1 security fixes and macOS updates including macOS 27.0.1 Golden Gate, according to 9to5Mac.

iOS 27.0.1 is available through Settings, General, Software Update. Apple's release notes, cited by 9to5Mac, say the update fixes an issue where iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max may unexpectedly restart when Face ID fails to authenticate. It also fixes a color artifact that may appear on photos captured at 2x under certain lighting conditions at f/1.48 on a small number of iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max devices, and an issue where opening Notification Center and Control Center simultaneously may cause the touchscreen to become unresponsive.

9to5Mac reported that some iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max users had experienced crashes when Face ID could not properly authenticate them. Apple had promised a fix this week, and iOS 27.0.1 delivers it. Of the fixes Apple listed, only the Notification Center and Control Center issue applies to all iPhone models. Because Apple's release notes are not typically comprehensive, older iPhones will likely receive other unmentioned bug fixes in iOS 27.0.1 as well, according to 9to5Mac.

iPad users received iPadOS 27.0.1. Its release notes say only that the update provides bug fixes for iPad, according to the report.

For iPhones still running iOS 26, Apple released iOS 26.7.1. Apple's release notes say the update contains security fixes for iPhone, 9to5Mac reported. Apple has not yet published the specific details of those fixes but will soon on its website, according to the report. The update arrives two weeks after Apple launched major new software releases including iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27, which were headlined by Siri AI.

On the Mac, Apple released macOS 27.0.1 Golden Gate, the first update since macOS 27 was released earlier in September, along with macOS Tahoe 26.7.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.8.1. The releases followed two release candidates; the second round of release candidates came exactly one week earlier, with public releases the following day. Apple's release notes during the release candidate stage mentioned only standard security fixes and performance improvements, according to 9to5Mac, but recent point releases have included significant security patches, many addressing vulnerabilities discovered with the help of AI tools.

Apple has confirmed that growing AI capabilities are affecting its security release cadence. In June, the company said it had pushed out fixes originally planned for version 26.6 ahead of schedule because AI can speed up the development of malicious hacking tools, reducing the time Apple wants to leave between making fixes public and getting them into users' hands, 9to5Mac reported. Apple will likely publish the security details for macOS 27.0.1 Golden Gate, macOS Tahoe 26.7.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.8.1 in the coming hours, according to the report.

The release builds for the macOS updates were listed as 24H32 for macOS Sequoia, 25G241 for macOS Tahoe 26.7.1 and 26A5434 for macOS 27.0.1 Golden Gate.
