Apple Taps 14 iPhone 18 Pro Units for Season's Final Friday Night Baseball Broadcast
Apple will place 14 iPhone 18 Pro devices around Dodger Stadium for the season's last Friday Night Baseball game on Sept. 18, with eight of them feeding live footage over a T-Mobile private 5G network.
The broadcast comes one day after the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max reach customers. Apple used last fall's iPhone 17 Pro in the same way, marking the first time a phone model was used as part of a professional live sports broadcast. Four iPhone 17 Pro units captured angles of a game, and the National Baseball Hall of Fame later added one of the devices to its collection in New York.
The company is expanding that setup this week. The 14 iPhone 18 Pro units will be embedded in the pitch clock, the backstop, a foul pole and both bullpens, positions Apple says can deliver viewpoints that standard broadcast cameras have trouble capturing. Eight of the 14 devices will connect to a dedicated T-Mobile Private 5G Network so their footage can flow into the broadcast in real time.
Beyond live play, the phones will record batting practice, player introductions and dugout perspectives.
Friday Night Baseball is available at no extra cost to Apple TV subscribers. Apple TV costs $14.99 per month, and the service is also offered at a discount through the Apple One bundle.
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max go on sale to customers on September 18, the same day as the Dodgers-Giants game.
