Apple Ties Maps Landmarks to Hidden Histories Podcast Episodes in Five U.S. Cities
Apple Maps now shows a panel linking select landmarks in five U.S. cities to episodes of its Hidden Histories podcast, part of the app's Guides feature.
Tapping that panel takes the user to an interface listing other landmarks in the same city that have podcast guides attached. In New York, the linked episodes cover Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, the Museum of Broadway, Grand Central Terminal, the Charging Bull, Studio 54 and Tin Pan Alley. Los Angeles entries include the history of the Hollywood Sign and the Hollywood Walk of Fame, while San Francisco's include Alcatraz and the Farallon Islands. The report did not specify which landmarks in Chicago and Washington, D.C. carry podcast links.
The Hidden Histories episodes sit under the Guides section of the Maps app. As with other Guides content, such as lists of places curated by publishers, users can tap a plus icon to add a podcast to their own collection. Saved episodes can be reopened later by pulling up the panel from the bottom of Maps and opening the Your Guides section.
Engadget's report did not say when the feature became available or how many landmarks in each city are covered.
