Apple to Announce HomeView Smart Home Hub on Tuesday, Gurman Says

Apple to unveil HomeView smart home hub with display and A18 chip, plus updated Apple TV and HomePod mini, report says.

Gurman described the HomeView as a Siri-powered device with a display and an A18 chip. The hub is designed to let customers control their other smart home devices. It will reportedly be available in two models, one designed for countertops and the other designed to be mounted on walls.

Apple will also unveil updated versions of two other home devices on Tuesday, Gurman reported. They are the Apple TV set-top box and the HomePod mini. Earlier this week, Gurman said Apple plans to announce a partnership with LG to create a smart lock, a thermostat and a doorbell.

The HomeView announcement follows multiple reports over the past couple of years that Apple was working on a new smart home product. Gurman’s report adds a name and a launch date to those earlier reports.

TechCrunch reported that Apple’s HomeKit software framework and HomePod smart speaker failed to get much traction. The HomeView would be the company’s most serious bet on the smart home to date, according to the report.

Editor's Summary

Apple is set to announce the HomeView, a Siri-powered smart home hub with a display and A18 chip, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The device is expected in countertop and wall-mounted models, alongside updated Apple TV and HomePod mini and a planned LG partnership for smart home accessories. The launch would mark Apple’s most serious smart home push after HomeKit and HomePod saw limited traction.
