Apple to Launch Three New iPhones This Week

Apple is set to unveil three new high-end iPhones this Wednesday, including the iPhone 18 Pro models and the foldable iPhone Ultra, while skipping more affordable models until early 2027.

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are positioned as successors to the popular 17 Pro line. Reported features include the A20 Pro chip, major camera upgrades with a variable aperture main lens, a 35 percent smaller Dynamic Island, and a new burgundy color option. Apple's C2 cellular modem and new satellite features, including 5G, are also expected. The iPhone 18 Pro Max is said to deliver the best battery life yet with significant gains. The Camera Control button is reportedly being redesigned.

The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to carry a higher starting price. Estimates suggest it could start at $1,399, although 9to5Mac speculates the actual price may be closer to $1,199 or $1,249.

The iPhone Ultra, described as Apple's first foldable, is expected to price above $2,000, creating a new high-end tier. The device is expected to feature a book-style fold with a roughly 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.8-inch inner display resembling an iPad mini. Design materials are said to mimic the iPhone Air, with a titanium border. It will have two rear cameras and two front-facing cameras, one for each display, and use Touch ID rather than Face ID. Software support in iOS 27 is expected to enable side-by-side app multitasking and adaptive landscape layouts. Performance is said to match the iPhone 18 Pro, with the same A20 Pro chip, a vapor chamber cooling system, and a C2 modem.

Notably, Apple is reportedly overhauling its fall lineup by postponing the base-model iPhone 18 and iPhone Air 2 to early 2027. 9to5Mac notes it is unclear whether this change is strategic or driven by the current memory crisis. In any case, this fall's new iPhone lineup will focus solely on the high end.
