Apple to unveil iPhone 18 Pro next week as Pixel 11 Pro users weigh alternatives

Apple will unveil the iPhone 18 Pro on September 9, while a survey reveals Pixel users are considering alternatives to the Pixel 11 Pro XL.

According to 9to5Mac, the iPhone 18 Pro will keep the same 6.3-inch size as its predecessor and focus on performance, cameras, design, and battery life. The device will be powered by Apple's new A20 Pro chip, which is part of the same family as the recently announced M6 and is expected to support the Siri AI features in iOS 27. The main camera is reported to feature a new module, and a variable aperture may be introduced, possibly exclusive to the Pro Max model. Telephoto performance will improve with a wider aperture, and a redesigned Camera Control is also rumored.

The design of the iPhone 18 Pro will largely resemble the previous model, but with a Dynamic Island cutout that is about 35% smaller, a more unified color blend on the rear glass and aluminum, and new flagship colors including a dark cherry/burgundy option. Battery life is expected to improve due to the efficiency of the A20 Pro and a new C2 Apple modem, along with a slightly larger battery. The iPhone 18 Pro Max, in a 6.9-inch form factor, is rumored to have a battery about 10% larger than the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and it may also be the only model with the variable aperture camera feature.

On the Google side, Android Authority's survey asked readers to identify their preferred alternatives to the Pixel 11 Pro XL. The article notes that this year's Pixel 11 Pro phones can feel underwhelming depending on expectations, and the smartphone playing field in 2026 is smaller than in past years. However, it suggests that lengthy software update guarantees and current RAM market trends may lead some buyers to choose a device other than the very latest model.
