Apple Trade-In Program Accepts iPhones as Old as iPhone 8
According to Engadget, Apple still offers trade-in credit for iPhones as old as the 2017 iPhone 8, with values up to $60 for the iPhone X.
The trade-in amount depends on the device's condition. For an iPhone 8 in good condition, Apple offers $35 in credit. The iPhone 8 Plus can fetch $40 if in good shape, or $10 if it has limited damage. The iPhone X, which was the premium model from 2017, is worth $60 in good condition, but a damaged unit gets nothing. Engadget notes that these figures are estimates, and the final value may be lower if the condition is not described accurately.
Apple's trade-in page also accepts newer iPhones, with the maximum current credit being $720 for an iPhone 16 Pro Max. For devices other than phones, Apple offers up to $690 for iPads, $2,045 for Macs, and $305 for Apple Watches, with serial numbers required for valuation. The HomePod, Apple TV, and AirPods are eligible for recycling but provide no trade-in credit.
People switching from Android can also trade in select models from Samsung, Google Pixel, OnePlus, and Huawei, though these bring lower values. For example, a 128GB Pixel 9 Pro in good condition yields $255, while a 1TB version yields $315. A Pixel 6 Pro in good condition is worth $50 regardless of storage. Engadget suggests that non-Apple devices might sell for better prices on third-party marketplaces.
The trade-in process applies when buying a new device from Apple's website: after choosing a trade-in device and answering condition questions, the buyer receives an estimate. If the full purchase price is paid upfront, the credit is refunded to the payment method once the old device is received and verified. For financed purchases through an Apple Card, carrier, or the Apple Upgrade program, the trade-in amount reduces monthly payments. Alternatively, users can convert the value into an Apple gift card through the Trade In page.
