Apple TV Releases Trailer for ‘Being Heumann,’ Directed by Siân Heder
Apple TV has released the official trailer for “Being Heumann,” an Apple Original Films drama directed by Siân Heder. The film, about the 1977 disability rights occupation of a San Francisco federal building, premieres November 13 after a limited theatrical release on November 6.
The movie stars Mark Ruffalo, Dylan O’Brien and Rob Delaney, among others, and Ruth Madeley appears as a young disabled woman in the story. Apple TV says the ensemble cast includes the largest assortment of Disabled actors ever.
According to Apple TV’s description, the film blends drama and humor to tell the true story of the 28-day occupation of the San Francisco Federal Building by disability rights protesters in 1977. Apple TV summarizes the story this way: “They wouldn’t take Judy Heumann’s phone calls, so she took their building.”
In the synopsis, a young disabled woman and a scrappy coalition of outsiders decide they have had enough. What begins as one impulsive act becomes the longest occupation of a federal building in American history, as hundreds spontaneously seize government offices and refuse to leave until the bureaucrat in their way, played by Mark Ruffalo, takes action. Bringing rebellion in all its forms to the hallowed halls, the movement’s accidental leaders struggle to find their path forward where none has ever been paved for them.
Apple TV describes “Being Heumann” as the revolutionary, irreverent and deeply human story of the least likely people trying to pull off the impossible and change the lives of millions. It is directed and produced by Siân Heder, whose 2021 film “CODA” earned Apple its first Best Picture Oscar in 2022. “CODA” also won Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for Troy Kotsur.
Apple TV is available for $14.99 per month or as part of the Apple One bundle. Its lineup includes Ted Lasso, Severance, The Studio, The Morning Show, Shrinking and Silo.
