Apple TV Sets Seven October Premieres, Led by Winter K2 Documentary and Tenzing

The slate begins October 2 with the documentary The Last First: Winter K2 and the second season of The Sisters Grimm. In The Last First: Winter K2, Amir Bar-Lev follows a 2021 expedition by Icelandic mountaineer John Snorri Sigurjónsson and the Pakistani father-and-son team Ali and Sajid Sadpara as they attempt the first winter summit of K2. The film shows them sharing the ascent with influencer climbers and film crews, commercial expedition clients, and Nepalese celebrity mountaineer Nims and his team of Sherpas. It examines strategy and determination, class and caste, money and power under life-and-death conditions.

Also on October 2, The Sisters Grimm returns for a second season. The kids and family series follows two orphaned sisters in a town filled with people drawn from fantasy and fairy tales, as they confront heroes and villains while investigating the mystery of their missing parents.

On October 7, Apple TV will premiere Small Prophets, a comedy starring Pearce Quigley as the eccentric Michael Sleep. Since his darling Clea disappeared seven years ago, Michael has lived an ordinary life, working in a DIY store and visiting his father Brian, played by Sir Michael Palin. When Brian shares an old recipe involving rainwater, horse manure and more than a little alchemy, Michael skeptically sets out to create homunculi, magical spirits that can predict the future, in the hope they will answer whether he will ever see Clea again.

Matchbox The Movie arrives October 9. Inspired by Mattel toys, the action film follows a group of childhood friends whose lives are upended when undercover CIA agent Sean, played by John Cena, returns to their small town as their long-absent former leader and unwittingly draws them into an international pursuit to save the world.

Tenzing, a drama based on true events, premieres October 16. It tells the story of Tenzing Norgay, played by Genden Phuntsok, the gifted Himalayan climber who, alongside New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary, played by Tom Hiddleston, became the first to summit Mount Everest. Encouraged by his wife Dawa, played by Thinley Lhamo, Tenzing finds an ally in expedition secretary Jill Henderson, played by Caitríona Balfe. Together they persuade Colonel John Hunt, played by Willem Dafoe, that Tenzing belongs on the British climbing team rather than merely serving it. The film contrasts Western climbers who see Everest as something to be conquered with Tenzing's reverence for Chomolungma as the sacred mother goddess. It portrays an ascent shaped by tensions over backgrounds, classes and competing ambitions as well as the mountain's perils, ending with two outsiders bound by mutual respect and trust and Tenzing's fulfillment of a lifelong dream and spiritual calling.

Where's Wanda? returns for a second season on October 21. Apple's first German-language series is a dark comedy about Dedo and Carlotta Klatt, who are desperate to find their missing 17-year-old daughter Wanda after she disappears without a trace. When police fail to find her, the family obtains surveillance devices with help from their tech-savvy son Ole. Disguised as employees of an electrical company, they bug their neighborhood and then half their suburb, discovering that behind closed doors none of their neighbors are who they pretend to be.

Nocturne, a crime drama, will be released October 30. Liev Schreiber plays Jonah Lynn, an ex-soldier turned homicide detective who leaves Philadelphia's tough streets for a quiet life in a small town in western Pennsylvania. When the town and his family come under attack from the diabolically cunning serial killer Jurek Walter, played by Graham, Jonah must protect all that he holds dear. The desperate search for Jurek's last missing victim forces him to send his surrogate daughter, FBI Agent Saga Bauer, played by Beetz, up against Jurek.
