Apple TV Still Down After Outage That Hit App Stores, Fitness+ and Music
Apple TV has been unavailable since 4:43PM on September 30, outlasting separate outages that briefly affected the iOS and Mac App Stores, Fitness+, Music and AppleCare+ purchases.
The Apple TV outage was not the only one on Apple's systems. According to 9to5Mac, Apple's System Status page showed outages across the iOS and the Mac App Stores, Fitness+, Music, as well as subscriptions and AppleCare+ purchases. Those services were all restored within a few hours, Engadget reported. Only Apple TV was still inaccessible at the time of the report.
In its notices for the services, Apple wrote that they "may be unavailable due to scheduled maintenance." Engadget reported that it was not clear why Apple TV is taking longer to update than the other services, or whether the company is dealing with other issues affecting the service at the same time.
Engadget's account, which relies on 9to5Mac's reading of Apple's System Status page, gives no further detail on what caused the initial failures or on when Apple TV is expected to return. No timetable for restoring the streaming service has been reported, and the report does not say whether Apple has issued any statement beyond the maintenance language attached to the individual service notices.
As described, the sequence of events has been one of recovery for most of the affected offerings and continued disruption for one: the App Stores, Fitness+, Music, subscriptions and AppleCare+ purchases came back within hours, while Apple TV did not.
