Apple TV to Add iPhone and iPad Profiles, Sign Language Support With iOS 27.2
Apple’s iOS 27.2, due next week, will bring user profiles to the Apple TV app on iPhone and iPad and add optional ASL and BSL support for select movies and shows, according to 9to5Mac.
Profiles already exist in tvOS for big-screen viewing of Apple TV content. With iOS and iPadOS 27.2, they will also be available on iPhone and iPad. Apple TV is currently the only major streaming service that does not offer user profiles on those devices, 9to5Mac reported. When a user creates profiles on one platform, they sync automatically to others, keeping playback history, queues and recommendations personalized for each viewer. A child profile will show only age-appropriate Apple TV content.
The update also adds new profile image options. Characters from Apple TV kids’ series including The Snoopy Show, Frog and Toad and Stillwater will be available.
For accessibility, Apple TV will add official support for sign language on select movies and shows. Users can optionally enable American Sign Language or British Sign Language in iOS 27.2. The option is found in the Settings app under Apps, TV, Sign Language. It is unknown how many Apple TV titles will support sign language initially.
Apple TV is available for $14.99 per month, or at a discount through the Apple One bundle.
Editor's Summary Apple plans to add user profiles to the Apple TV app on iPhone and iPad and sign language support for select titles in iOS 27.2 next week. Profiles will sync across platforms and include child restrictions and new character images, while ASL and BSL can be enabled in Settings. The update broadens Apple TV features beyond tvOS, though Apple has not said how many titles will support sign language at launch.
