Apple TV to Debut BBC Comedy ‘Small Prophets’ on October 7
Apple TV will debut the BBC comedy Small Prophets on Oct. 7; the 100%-rated show gets a new trailer.
Small Prophets debuted in the UK earlier this year and became a hit for the BBC, according to 9to5Mac. Apple TV will launch the first two episodes on Wednesday, October 7, then release episodes weekly through November 4. The show is one of the few existing programs Apple has licensed from another network.
The series is described as a comic tale about Michael Sleep, an eccentric man whose life has been ordinary since his darling Clea disappeared seven years ago. He works in a DIY store, visits his father Brian, and hopes Clea will return. One day Brian shares an old recipe involving rainwater, horse manure and more than a little alchemy. With the recipe in hand, Michael sets out, though with some skepticism, to create homunculi—magical spirits that can predict the future—in the hope they have the answer to his burning question: “will I ever see Clea again?”
Small Prophets was created, written and directed by Mackenzie Crook, who also created Detectorists and acted in The Office (UK) and Pirates of the Caribbean. The cast includes Quigley as Michael Sleep and Palin as Brian, according to the series summary.
According to 9to5Mac, the show will be available globally on Apple TV, but UK viewers will not gain access until 2027. That means the BBC hit will reach international subscribers before it becomes available on Apple TV in the UK.
The premiere adds to a busy slate of Apple TV comedies. Currently airing comedies include Brothers with Matthew McConaughey and Ted Lasso season 4, while Owen Wilson’s series Stick is set to return soon. Apple TV costs $14.99 per month, or can be purchased at a discount through the Apple One bundle.
