Apple Wallet driver's license support launches in Virginia as 15th state

Virginia residents can now add driver's licenses to Apple Wallet, making it the 15th state to support the feature for TSA checkpoints and select venues.

The feature was first announced at WWDC in 2021 and has gradually rolled out across the country. MacRumors first spotted signs of Virginia preparing support earlier this year, and Virginia and Apple officially launched the feature today.

To add a license, users open the Wallet app on iPhone, tap the plus icon in the upper-right corner, scan the front and back of the driver's license, and verify their identity.

Once added, the digital license can be used at TSA checkpoints at more than 250 U.S. airports, as well as at select businesses and venues.

Several other states are working on support, including Kentucky, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Utah, Connecticut, and Mississippi.

For those in states without support, Apple introduced a Digital ID feature last year powered by U.S. passports, allowing users to add a passport version to Wallet for TSA checkpoints, regardless of residence.
