Apple Wallet driver's licenses heading to seven more states

Apple Wallet driver's licenses are coming to seven more states, starting with Kentucky and North Carolina, per 9to5Mac.

Seven states either confirmed work on the feature, have been touted as partners by Apple, or have appeared in Apple code. Kentucky is set to launch in summer 2026, and North Carolina is expected to follow in early 2027. Oklahoma, Utah and Virginia are also working on support, though no launch dates have been announced. Connecticut and Mississippi were previously named by Apple as partners, but their current status is unclear.

Apple first announced the driver's license feature at WWDC 2021. Five years later, iPhone and Apple Watch users in 14 states and Puerto Rico can add their driver's license or state ID to Apple Wallet.

The Secure Technology Alliance, which tracks mobile driver's license rollout, lists Indiana, Vermont, New Jersey, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri, Nevada and Wyoming as states that have started exploring mobile ID support through legislation or studies. The report cautioned that progress varies significantly from state to state, and exploration does not guarantee a launch.

For users in states without support, Apple last year launched a Digital ID feature powered by a U.S. passport, allowing iPhone users to pass through TSA checkpoints at more than 250 U.S. airports.
