Apple Watch Series 12 to feature always-on heart-rate tracking, new Fitness app, report says
Apple Watch Series 12 to get always-on heart rate, new Fitness app, ceramic colors.
The always-on heart-rate tracking would let the sensor record data throughout the day, rather than only during workouts and at random intervals. The redesigned Fitness and health app software is expected to show more wellness-related metrics in a similar way to popular apps from Whoop and Oura, helping users understand their sleep, recovery, and other health signals more easily.
Gurman reports that Apple is testing two color options for the rumored ceramic case: the traditional white and a dark gray. There will also be “many new band colors and configurations.”
On the design front, Bloomberg says Apple is pushing to have a major redesign ready for next year, though the timeline could slip to the year after. The current watch design language was introduced in 2024 with the Series 12, featuring a thinner case and reduced bezels.
The report notes that Apple Watch has often emphasized activity rings, while competitors like Whoop provide more comprehensive data interpretation. Whether a future redesign will maintain backwards compatibility with existing bands remains unclear.
