Apple’s New iPad Mini Adds First IP67 Rating, OLED Screen and $699 Price

Apple’s new iPad Mini opens preorders Oct. 28 from $699, with the first iPad IP67 rating, OLED screen and A20 Pro chip.

The IP67 rating is the model’s biggest functional upgrade, ZDNet reported. It does not mean the tablet can be used underwater, but it makes the Mini more versatile around pools, kitchens and outdoor settings than other iPads. Apple has not previously offered dust and water resistance on an iPad, the report said.

Alongside that change, the Mini gets an OLED display with a glare-reduction feature and an A20 Pro processor. Apple also reduced the tablet’s thickness and weight: the new model is 5.4mm thick and 255g, compared with 6.3mm and 293g for the previous generation, according to ZDNet. The device has an 8.5-inch screen.

The new iPad Mini supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Apple moved the front-facing camera from the portrait edge to the landscape edge, a change intended to improve video calls, ZDNet reported.

Pricing starts at $699, $200 above the 2024 model’s $499 starting price. Preorders begin Oct. 28, and orders are scheduled to ship Nov. 6, according to the report.
