Arc browser to stop working by Christmas as Browser Company focuses on Dia
The Verge reports Arc will stop working by Christmas as The Browser Company shifts focus to AI-centric Dia.
The newsletter said Arc’s disappearance had been expected. The Browser Company moved away from Arc two years ago in favor of Dia, and Arc has been in maintenance mode since then. The newsletter said Arc is now not just being ignored but going away, and that by Christmas users will not be able to use the app anymore. It did not give an exact date beyond Christmas.
The newsletter said many new browsers are now available, with some heavily inspired by Arc and others close copies. Its author said they need to test a lot of them and do not yet know where they will land. Among the alternatives being tested is Dia, which the newsletter said has recently received many of Arc’s best features and includes some AI features the author called pretty cool.
The Oct. 24 edition of Installer also included a roundup of other product news. It highlighted Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, saying the campaign mode is a huge improvement this time; the $80 Blink Mini 4K camera with two-way audio; and JustWatch TV, a free streaming service that the newsletter said is surprisingly well-stocked. It also mentioned Anthropic’s Claude Duet, a waitlist-only work assistant for making to-do lists, coordinating meetings and compiling data.
The newsletter also listed the stop-motion film Wildwood, which it said was made without generative AI; Teenage Engineering’s EP-35, a battery-powered multi-input amp; Nintendo Switch Sports Resort; Delta 2.0, which can now emulate handheld consoles; and Kindle Plus, a rebranding of Kindle Unlimited that adds features including AI-narrated audiobooks.
