Argos Cuts £65 Off Nintendo Switch 2 and Adds a £20 Game in Bundle Deal

The console alone is listed at £354.99, against a full price of £419.99, a saving of £65. The £20 game offer covers titles including Cyberpunk 2077, Metroid Prime 4, Pokémon Pokopia and Star Fox. Depending on which game a buyer selects and what it would otherwise cost, TechRadar calculated the combined saving at up to £112.

James Pickard, the deals editor at TechRadar, wrote that Pokémon Pokopia was the strongest pick in the bundle, both on value for money and because he considers it one of the console's best exclusives. He said he had not expected to see a discount of this size on the hardware so soon after launch.

Smyths Toys is also selling the console at the reduced price without a bundle, and is offering a PowerA Slim Case for £10 with the purchase. TechRadar judged that offer inferior to the Argos bundle and recommended the £20 game instead of the case, which it described as useful but not essential.

The discount follows a recent European Union ruling that requires the Switch 2 to comply with new battery regulations, according to TechRadar, which linked the timing at least partly to that decision. The current version of the console does not comply, and a revised model featuring a user-replaceable battery is due to become available this autumn.

Nintendo has said there is "no difference in functionality between current products and revised products containing user-replaceable batteries." The company's position, as cited by TechRadar, is that the current version runs the same games with no performance differences, so buyers of the discounted unit are not receiving an inferior device.

Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days is scheduled for October and Black Friday for November. Pickard wrote that he would not be surprised if a retailer held back current stock for next month's sale before running a similar promotion, while arguing that the current Argos offer will be hard to beat in the meantime.

The Switch 2 has had what TechRadar described as a chaotic period since launch, with the risk of tariffs and price increases threatening to push the cost of the console above its original launch price.
