Asus ZenDrive External DVD Writer Discounted to $37.88 on Amazon
TechRadar reports the Asus ZenDrive external DVD writer is down to $37.88 at Amazon, about 16% off, offering a portable way to read and burn CDs and DVDs on computers without an optical drive.
TechRadar reported the deal on October 8, 2026. It said the ZenDrive supports 8x DVD read and write speeds and 24x CD speeds, along with M-DISC archival media designed for long-term preservation of photos, family videos and important documents. The drive also includes Disc Encryption II, which offers password protection and hidden-file functionality for supported disc-writing tasks, and Nero BackItUp software.
The unit is 13mm thick and connects through USB-A and USB-C, with both USB 2.0 and USB Type-C cables included. TechRadar said it is compatible with Windows PCs and Macs without a separate adapter. The publication recommended it for people who still have collections of CDs or DVDs, need a simple way to create physical backups, or want to access older software and media.
The ZenDrive does not support Blu-ray. TechRadar said buyers who no longer use physical discs or who need to read Blu-ray media should skip it, adding that a USB flash drive or external SSD will generally be more practical for everyday file transfers. Its compact design makes it convenient to keep for occasional use, according to the report.
On price history, TechRadar noted that the ZenDrive was listed at $44.99 before Amazon reduced it to $37.88. The deal description put the price at $38, down from $45. The $7.11 saving is not large in dollar terms, but it brings the cost below $40. TechRadar said the lowest price it had seen was $30 in 2021 and that it is unlikely to reach that level again.
The deal is available at Amazon, according to TechRadar. The report's buying guidance said the ZenDrive is suitable for physical media users who have CDs or DVDs they still want to access or who need a simple way to create physical backups. It advised skipping the drive for anyone who no longer uses discs or needs Blu-ray support.
